'Diversity can be found wherever there is more than one possibility, an option to do something different!’
In terms of cultural diversity, it can be anything to do with people’s customs, habits and characteristics, such as food, music, art and literature, and of course language.
It also includes biological, geographical and architectural diversity. Not all countries have four seasons, in one place you might see deer running in the woods and
in another monkeys in the jungle or camels in the desert. The same goes for towns and cities.
Some are old, whilst others are new.
Linguistic diversity also plays an important part. There are many different national languages, dialects, and regional or minority languages. We also communicate through other means such as
body language. You might shake someone’s hand to say hello in one place,
but kiss them on the cheek or bow in another.
Most young people have a completely different vocabulary to older generations, which is a sign of diversity. Language is the key to intercultural dialogue,
making it very important that people learn foreign languages.
