Social diversity is enriching and vibrant – that was the message which nearly 2000 school pupils picked up during the first Diversity Day of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) on 14 November 2007 in Vienna.

Under the motto “chancen=gleich” (opportunities make us equal), Diversity Day transformed the abstract norms of the European anti-discrimination legislation into real-life experiences. The event offered a programme full of action, information and discussion.

500 young people from schools and youth centres performed on stage and celebrated diversity through music, comedy acts, fashion shows and dance performances. Their enthusiasm was contagious, starting out with an impressive percussion performance by deaf pupils who opened the Diversity Day. In addition to Viennese school kids, four Hungarian schools came to the event to present their contributions.
